Hey guys! Its been about a month since my last entry and I felt like this needed to be discussed or at least brought up. (Because there isn't anything more important..yeah)
Lately I've seen a lot and I mean A LOT of people on this site close their accounts because of bullying, and its not because they stole art its because of the art they created. Usually its either because the person creates distasteful fan art or writes poor fan fictions. SO? Just because you may not like something a person makes doesn't mean you have to harass and belittle them. So what if their grammar is poor? So what if their art is not up to standards or is distasteful? Nobody said you had to look at it! Why is there all of this hate? Well, a lot of those self proclaimed critics  of fan art claim they that are trying to clean up or purify the fan community .

Its one thing to look at a piece of art through a critical lens, but it is a very different thing when someone harasses and bullies another person to rid the site of "bad artwork." That is called  cyber bullying my friends. A good critique gradually deconstructs a piece of art noticing what is good, what needs work, and how the artist can improve it. A good critique should not consist of telling the artist "This is a piece of crap and you should never draw again! You're worthless and talent-less! Nobody likes what you draw!" This type of treatment is especially noticeable in the Sonic fan community. Incredibly noticeable actually.

Honestly, I could care less what fan art people submit. I don't always like what I see, but I don't go around crushing people's dreams because of it. I think it is very important to nurture creativity and imagination. I really like seeing what things people come up with whether its fan art or fan fiction. That's actually one of my favorite things about being a Sonic fan. I love seeing people create their own alternate universes, creating their own comic series, or writing fan fictions.  Personally, I think fan art is a great genre and it can help people develop a sense of style in art and/or story writing. Quite a few people branch off their experience with fan works to create more original things. I don't understand why people hate that, and hate it so much that they are willing to tear others down because of it. That's just mean and people like that aren't doing it to create "higher standards" for the fan community its just meant to belittle others. Some fans think that the fan art destroys the community; I think it does the exact opposite. It would also be very boring if all the fan art you saw was completely canon. Who cares if a person creates a poorly designed character? Who cares if its a Mary Sue or Gary Stu? So what if a fan creates a love interest for a certain character? So what if a fan's story isn't completely original? Nothing is truly original anymore anyways! LET THE FANS BE FANS! Look if you are just a Sonic fan for the games and don't care for comics and fan art and vice versa , that's fine I get that, just don't be a jerk about it. Let's be supportive an encourage others to keep creating. I'm not saying you have to endorse fan artists you don't like, but I think its good to encourage the ones you do. So let's stop hating our fellow fans!

"It's only ugly because it's new and you don't like it."-Stephen Fry

I know I kinda wrangled the Sonic community into this , but I know this is a problem in most fan communities.

If anyone has any thoughts on this I'd be more than happy to read them!
